Ballard High School Senior Wins 40th Annual Horsing Around with Art Competition at Kentucky Derby Museum

Ballard High School senior Savanah Webb was recently announced as the winner of the 40th annual Horsing Around with Art competition by the Kentucky Derby Museum and school administrators. Her winning piece, titled "My Old Kentucky Home," will be displayed at the museum for a year, and she will receive a Spring Race Day Experience prize package. Additionally, her school's art department will be awarded $500 for art supplies.

The grand prize in the competition is given to the student whose artwork best captures the essence of the Kentucky Derby. Churchill Downs Racetrack President Mike Anderson commended Webb's work for its intricate details that showcase the spirit and pageantry of the iconic race. The Horsing Around with Art program is the museum's longest-running education initiative.

Kentucky Derby Museum President and CEO Patrick Armstrong highlighted the program's commitment to supporting arts in local schools with a focus on the Kentucky Derby. This year, students from 38 schools submitted 235 entries, featuring a variety of styles and mediums. The museum will award $6,200 in prizes to winning schools' art departments, continuing its tradition of recognizing and encouraging young artists.

The museum's dedication to fostering creativity and celebrating the Kentucky Derby through student artwork has been a cornerstone of the Horsing Around with Art program for four decades. The annual submissions serve as a reminder of the upcoming race and showcase the talent and inspiration of participating students. A special ceremony honoring the students and winners will be held at the museum in March.
