Controversy Surrounding CBS 60 Minutes Segment Featuring Longevity Researcher Peter Attia

CBS has decided to remove a 60 Minutes segment featuring longevity researcher Peter Attia from a rerun of the show following the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. The segment, which originally aired in October, was set to be part of a rerun airing during the Super Bowl, but CBS News will replace it with another piece. The segment features correspondent Norah O’Donnell discussing Attia’s research on longevity medicine with him. Attia’s name appears numerous times in the recently released Epstein documents, with the bulk of the emails between Attia and Epstein dating back to the mid-2010s.

Attia, who has a medical degree and focuses on longevity research, exchanged emails with Epstein on various medical matters. Some of the emails contain crude banter, with one email from Attia mentioning “P**sy is, indeed, low carb” and another discussing a “fresh shipment” that included a photo of medication bottles. Attia has issued an apology for the emails, acknowledging their embarrassing and tasteless nature. He explained that his interactions with Epstein were limited to a few occasions at Epstein’s home in New York and that he never visited Epstein’s private island where sex trafficking allegations occurred.

Attia expressed regret for the content of the emails and stated that he viewed his access to prominent individuals like Epstein as novel at the time. He emphasized that his comments were meant to convey discretion about social and professional circles rather than awareness of any wrongdoing. Attia’s status as a contributor to CBS News is currently under scrutiny, and he has taken responsibility for the content of the emails.
