University of Louisville Announces Defensive Coaching Staff Changes for 2026 Season

The University of Louisville and head coach Jeff Brohm have made changes to their defensive coaching staff. Ron English, the defensive coordinator and safeties coach, will not return next season as he plans to take a year off to support his son. Mark Hagen, the defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator, will also not be part of the coaching staff next season. Adam Mueller, a former quality control coach at Louisville, has been promoted to be the new linebackers coach, replacing Mark Ivey. Jontavius Morris, a former Western Kentucky defensive tackle, will coach the defensive tackles. Ivey will now serve as co-defensive coordinator alongside Steve Ellis, who coaches the defensive backs.
Ivey, who has been with Louisville for seven seasons, will return to coach the defensive line in the 2026 season. Before joining Louisville, Ivey coached at Appalachian State and served as interim head coach there. Ellis, the cornerbacks coach, joined Louisville in 2023 after coaching at various other schools. The Cardinals are scheduled to open the 2026 season against Ole Miss at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Join the conversation at Cardinal Sports.
