5150 (Expanded Edition): Celebrating 40 Years of Van Halen's Musical Journey
Van Halen embarked on a new musical journey four decades ago with the release of 5150, their first album featuring Sammy Hagar as the lead vocalist. The album, which includes hits like “Why Can’t This Be Love,” “Dreams,” and “Best Of Both Worlds,” became the band’s first #1 album and continued their streak of multi-Platinum releases.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of 5150, Rhino will release the 5150 (Expanded Edition) on March 27. This collection includes the remastered 1986 album overseen by the band’s engineer Donn Landee, along with over 90 minutes of previously unreleased live recordings from a concert in New Haven, Connecticut. The Blu-ray in the set features a high-definition upgrade of the Live Without a Net concert video and promotional videos for “Dreams” and “Why Can’t This Be Love.”
Fans can also look forward to standalone versions of 5150, available as a 2CD set or a 2LP on black vinyl. The album was recorded at Eddie’s 5150 Studios in California and debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 upon its release in 1986. It became one of Van Halen’s best-selling albums, earning 6x Platinum certification in the U.S. and kicking off the successful 5150 Tour.
