The Exorcist" 2027: Chiwetel Ejiofor Joins Star-Studded Cast in Mike Flanagan's New Horror Adaptation

Chiwetel Ejiofor, an Oscar nominee, has been confirmed to join the cast of Mike Flanagan's upcoming film "The Exorcist," scheduled for release on March 12, 2027. The movie will feature a new story within "The Exorcist" universe and will not be a direct sequel to the 2023 film "The Exorcist: Believer." Ejiofor will star alongside Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, and Diane Lane in this adaptation of the horror classic.
The original 1973 film, directed by William Friedkin, followed the story of a mother seeking help from Catholic priests to rid her daughter of a demonic presence. The movie, considered a horror masterpiece, won the Academy Award for best adapted screenplay and sound in 1974. Chiwetel Ejiofor, known for his roles in "12 Years a Slave," "Love Actually," and "American Gangster," will bring his talent to this new project.
Director Mike Flanagan, known for his work on films like "Oculus" and "Hush," will write and produce "The Exorcist" under his Red Room Pictures banner. The film is a collaboration between Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment, with Alexandra Magistro and David Robinson serving as executive producers. This project marks Flanagan's fourth film with Blumhouse and his second collaboration with Ejiofor after their work on "The Life of Chuck."
Chiwetel Ejiofor is represented by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin, Premier PR, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman. The addition of Ejiofor to the cast of "The Exorcist" adds to the anticipation surrounding this new take on the iconic horror story.
