Vancouver Whitecaps FC Sign Forward Cheikh Sabaly: A Game-Changer for the 2026 Season
Vancouver Whitecaps FC have made a significant signing by bringing in forward Cheikh Sabaly from FC Metz in France's Ligue 1. The 26-year-old Senegal international has a contract with the Whitecaps through 2028-29, with an option for 2029-30. Sabaly is known for his athleticism and attacking prowess, having contributed to 19 goals last season to help his team secure promotion to Ligue 1. His experience playing in competitive environments with Metz and the Senegal national team is expected to have an immediate impact on the Whitecaps squad. Sabaly has a strong track record with 21 goals and 11 assists in 122 matches for Metz, including 15 goals in the previous season. He has also represented Pau FC and Quevilly-Rouen in France. On the international stage, Sabaly has scored one goal in 12 appearances for Senegal and was part of the team that won the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Vancouver's upcoming 2026 MLS season will kick off on Feb. 21 with a home match against Real Salt Lake at 7:30 pm ET on Apple TV.
