Josh McDaniels Wins AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year Award in First Season Back with Patriots

Josh McDaniels, the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, was honored with the AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year award in his first season back with the team. McDaniels received 17 first-place votes out of 50, totaling 249 points. Vance Joseph, the defensive coordinator for the Broncos, came in second with 10 first-place votes and 176 points. The award was the first of eight to be announced at NFL Honors, with the 2025 NFL Most Valuable Player award among the upcoming accolades.
The MVP award contenders include Christian McCaffrey, Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence, Drake Maye, and Matthew Stafford. Maye, who will be leading the Patriots in the Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks, is also a finalist for Offensive Player of the Year along with McCaffrey. McCaffrey and Lawrence are both in the running for Comeback Player of the Year. The winners were determined by a panel of 50 media members who cover the league, with votes tallied by the accounting firm Lutz and Carr. Each voter selected a top 5 for the eight AP NFL awards, with first-place votes carrying 10 points and subsequent votes worth 5, 3, 2, and 1 point.
The other awards to be presented at the NFL Honors ceremony in San Francisco include Coach of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Offensive Rookie of the Year.
