Legendary Coach Bob Knight to be Honored with Statue at IU's Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall

IU Athletics has revealed plans to erect a statue in honor of legendary coach Bob Knight. The bronze statue will be placed alongside the 1976 National Championship statues at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Knight, who coached at IU from 1971 to 2000, led the team to three NCAA National Championships and established the Assembly Hall as a renowned venue in college sports. His coaching record of 662–239 at Indiana and 902 career victories solidify his legacy as one of the most influential figures in basketball history.

The statue will serve as a tribute to Knight's unparalleled impact on the game of basketball and the Indiana University community. As a member of multiple Hall of Fames, including the Naismith Hall of Fame and the IU Athletics Hall of Fame, Knight's legacy extends far beyond his coaching achievements. The statue, designed by Brian Hanlon of Hanlon Studios, will commemorate Knight's dedication to excellence and discipline, qualities that have inspired generations of players and fans.

IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson emphasized Knight's profound influence on the university and basketball fans. Having personally experienced Knight's commitment to excellence as a student manager, Dolson recognizes the lasting impact of Knight's coaching philosophy. The statue project, funded by a dedicated IU Men’s Basketball supporter, will honor Knight's legacy and contributions to the sport.

The statue of Bob Knight at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall will stand as a lasting tribute to his remarkable coaching career and enduring legacy in the world of basketball. Stay tuned for more updates on the project timeline as further details are released in the coming months.
