Unearthed: The Lost Rehearsal Tape of Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads

A rare piece of heavy metal history has been uncovered in an attic after 46 years. A cassette tape containing a recording of an Ozzy Osbourne rehearsal from 1980 has been found in Suffolk, England. The tape features Osbourne, guitarist Randy Rhoads, and bassist Bob Daisley jamming on a blues song before drummer Lee Kerslake joined the band. The discovery was made by David 'Chabby' Jolly, a friend of Osbourne at the time.

The cassette tape captures 12 minutes of Osbourne, Rhoads, and Daisley rehearsing in Suffolk. Daisley recalls the time they spent there in January 1980, experimenting with songs and inviting a small audience to listen to their music. Despite warnings about Osbourne's reputation, Daisley decided to join the band, leading to the recording of the iconic album "Blizzard Of Ozz."

The recording sessions for "Blizzard Of Ozz" began on March 22, 1980, at Ridge Farm Studios in Surrey. The album was released on Jet Records in the UK on September 20, 1980, reaching number 7 on the UK charts. Daisley later faced legal disputes with Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne over song credits and royalties but fondly remembers the creative and successful times they shared.

The discovery of the rehearsal tape has brought back memories of the band's early days and the impact they had on their audience. Despite the challenges they faced, the music they created together remains a testament to their talent and creativity. The legacy of Ozzy Osbourne, Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, and Lee Kerslake lives on through their music, inspiring generations of heavy metal fans.
