Exploring the Legacy of 'Jaws: The Revenge' - The Shark That Roared Documentary

2025 marked the 50th anniversary of the iconic movie "Jaws," directed by Steven Spielberg. In a couple of years, it will be the 40th anniversary of the last film in the "Jaws" franchise, "Jaws: The Revenge." Despite its reputation as a famously bad sequel, the film has its own set of fans. Mike Gencarelli, the owner of Voight-Kampff Productions, is one such fan and has announced plans to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film in 2027 with a documentary originally titled "Jaws Goes to the Bahamas," now renamed "The Shark That Roared." A teaser trailer for the documentary has been released online.
Directed by Joseph Sargent and written by Michael de Guzman, "Jaws: The Revenge" follows the story of Ellen Brody, whose family has been plagued by shark attacks. After her son becomes a victim of a Great White shark, Ellen visits her other son in the Bahamas and meets Hoagie Newcombe. As Ellen and Hoagie develop a relationship, a massive shark reappears off the coast of the island, reigniting Ellen's troubles with Great Whites. The film features a cast including Lorraine Gary, Lance Guest, Mario Van Peebles, and Michael Caine.
"The Shark That Roared" is currently in production, with plans to interview all surviving cast and crew members. Kevin Smith, a devoted "Jaws" fan, was interviewed for the documentary and ended up becoming an executive producer. Anthony C. Ferrante, known for directing the "Sharknado" movies, also joined as an executive producer.
