Journalist Don Lemon Enlists Former Prosecutor Joe Thompson in Defense Against Federal Civil Rights Charges

Journalist Don Lemon has enlisted the help of former senior U.S. assistant prosecutor Joe Thompson to join his defense team. Thompson, known for his involvement in prosecuting fraud cases in Minnesota, recently announced additional charges in a wide-ranging fraud investigation involving Medicaid funds. Lemon faces federal civil rights charges related to his coverage of an anti-immigration enforcement protest at a St. Paul church. The grand jury indicted Lemon on charges of conspiracy and interfering with the First Amendment rights of worshippers during the protest. Independent journalist Georgia Fort is also facing charges in connection with the incident. Lemon, who was previously let go from CNN, maintains that he was at the church as a solo journalist documenting the protest. The situation has drawn criticism from news media advocates and civil rights activists, including Rev. Al Sharpton, who have raised concerns about the impact on First Amendment rights.
