Traffic on Interstate 75 was moving slowly due to a vehicle fire near the Sun City Center exit when a serious crash occurred near the Hillsborough–Manatee County line. On February 9, 2026, around 4:30 p.m., a tractor-trailer attempted an illegal U-turn to head southbound on I-75, leading to a collision with a Toyota Corolla driven by a 28-year-old man from Parrish. The driver of the Corolla sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, while the tractor-trailer driver, Julio Dones Rosa, was unharmed. Dones Rosa, a 45-year-old from Citrus Springs, was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a charge of reckless driving involving serious injury and was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail.
