Vertical has acquired the North American rights to the political thriller film "The Wizard of the Kremlin," directed by Olivier Assayas and starring Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander, and Jude Law. The movie, based on the novel "Le Mage du Kremlin" by Giuliano da Empoli, is set in early 1990s Russia and follows the story of Vadim Baranov, a young man who becomes a key figure in shaping the new Russia under the influence of rising KGB agent Vladimir Putin. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and will be released in theaters later this year.
Written by Assayas and Emmanuel Carrère, the film also features Tom Sturridge, Will Keen, and Jeffrey Wright in supporting roles. Assayas described the project as one of his most ambitious and exciting, highlighting the exceptional cast and the challenges faced during the shoot.
