Unveiling the Intriguing World of M.I.A.: Peacock's Crime Thriller Series Set in Miami

Peacock's upcoming crime thriller series, M.I.A., created, written, and executive produced by Bill Dubuque, is set to premiere on May 7. The first season comprises nine 60-minute episodes and features a talented cast including Shannon Gisela, Cary Elwes, Danay Garcia, Brittany Adebumola, Dylan Jackson, Alberto Guerra, Maurice Compte, Gerardo Celasco, and Marta Milans.
The story follows Etta Tiger Jonze (played by Shannon Gisela), who is involved in the family drug business in Miami. When their operation is threatened, Etta finds herself in a dangerous situation, forcing her to rely on her intelligence to survive in the city's criminal underworld.
Unlike many other shows set in Miami, M.I.A. was actually filmed in the city itself. Other series like Hotel Cocaine, Griselda, and Dexter have used locations outside of Miami due to factors like production costs and lack of incentives in Florida. However, M.I.A. stands out for its authentic portrayal of the city.
Several popular shows, including Miami Vice, Burn Notice, Ballers, and Magic City, have also been filmed in Miami. While some productions have used Miami for exterior shots, many have opted for other locations due to various challenges, such as high production costs and insurance expenses.
Karen Campbell served as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer of M.I.A., with Althea Jones directing the first two episodes and serving as an executive producer. The series features a talented lineup of directors for each episode, including Gwyneth Horder-Payton, Marizee Almas, Ben Semanoff, and John Dahl. MRC is the studio behind the show, with Paramount Global Content Distribution handling distribution.
Fans can get a sneak peek at the series with the first-look photos released ahead of the premiere. Stay tuned for the thrilling and suspenseful journey that awaits in M.I.A. on Peacock starting May 7.
