The Beatles Story 1966: A Tribute to Revolver and Pet Sounds" - HBAPA Fundraiser Concert at First Christian Church

The top 500 albums of all time list by Rolling Stone Magazine ranks the Beatles' "Revolver" at No. 3, with the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds" one spot higher. The Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts will be performing both albums at First Christian Church Huntington Beach in a show titled "The Beatles Story 1966," as a fundraiser concert for the Music, Media, and Entertainment Technology Department. Director Nicole Kubis highlighted the students' initial hesitation towards the song list but expressed how they grew to appreciate the complexities and nuances of the music.
The concert will feature Beatles songs in the first half and Beach Boys songs in the second half, with the decision to include the Beach Boys album from the same year as the Beatles' 1966 release. Students like David Ivison, a drummer and keyboardist, and Roxy Escalera, a singer and costume designer, shared their newfound appreciation for the music and its influence on modern music. Jaxsen Weber, a lead guitarist, also mentioned how his perspective on the Beatles changed after joining the program and how it impacted his guitar playing.
This performance marks the second installment in the reboot of the Beatles series by HBAPA, following the success of the initial production a decade ago. The shows will take place on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at First Christian Church, with a matinee performance on Saturday at 1 p.m. Ticket prices, including fees, range from $38.50 to $53.50.
