2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards: Celebrating Diversity and Independent Filmmaking
The 2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards are set to take place on Sunday, with Ego Nwodim hosting the event at the Hollywood Palladium. The show will be live-streamed on various platforms. Peter Hujar’s Day leads the film nominations with five nods, followed by Blue Sun Palace, Lurker, One of Them Days, and Sorry, Baby with four each. Train Dreams, Lucky Lu, The Plague, and Twinless have three nominations each. In the TV categories, Adolescence, Forever, and Mr Loverman lead with four nominations each. Since 2023, the Spirit Awards have recognized performers in gender-neutral categories. This year's nominees come from 18 different countries with budgets ranging from $35,000 to $20 million. Forty-one percent of the nominees are women, and 33 percent are Black, Indigenous, or people of color.
Last month, awards were presented in three categories at a brunch. The Producers Award went to Tony Yang, the Truer Than Fiction Award went to Rajee Samarasinghe, and the Someone to Watch Award went to Tatti Ribeiro. The nominees list includes a diverse range of films and talent, with winners to be announced live during the event. The Spirit Awards celebrate independent filmmaking and honor outstanding achievements in the industry.
