2026 Spirit Awards Recap: Peter Hujar’s Day and One of Them Days Shine Despite No Wins
Peter Hujar’s Day and One of Them Days were highlighted in Ego Nwodim’s 2026 Spirit Awards monologue for showcasing different achievements in a single day. Despite leading in nominations, neither film took home any awards at the ceremony. Peter Hujar’s Day, directed by Ira Sachs and starring Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall, and One of Them Days, featuring Keke Palmer and SZA in a film produced by Issa Rae, left empty-handed. SZA was nominated for best breakthrough performance but lost to Kayo Martin from The Plague. Twinless, starring Dylan O’Brien and directed by James Sweeney, also received nominations but did not win any awards, including the best feature category.
Adolescence dominated the TV categories, winning all four awards it was nominated for, while Forever and Mr Loverman, which also received four nominations each, did not win any awards. The 2026 Film Independent Spirit Awards, hosted by Ego Nwodim, were held at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and streamed live on Film Independent and IMDb’s YouTube channels.
