A Blue Butterfly: A Psychological Drama Starring Steve Toussaint and Sanaa Lathan

Steve Toussaint and Sanaa Lathan are set to star in the upcoming psychological drama film, A Blue Butterfly, directed by C.J. ‘Fiery’ Obasi. The movie will start filming in London and Kigali in early March. Toussaint has also written the script for the film, which is produced by Stella Nwimo and co-produced by Rebecca Long from Boudica Entertainment.
A Blue Butterfly follows Sentwali, a man with a troubled past who leads a secluded life as a limousine driver in the city. His only connection to the outside world is with Joseph, a Holocaust survivor who understands the weight of past trauma. When Sentwali meets actress Emily, who sees beyond his facade, the possibility of redemption and a new beginning emerges.
The film delves into themes of survivor's guilt, redemption, and the struggle for self-forgiveness. Nwimo and Long are currently in talks with sales executives at the European Film Market to discuss the project's potential. Nwimo previously produced Olive Nwosu’s Lady, which premiered at Sundance and is featured in the Berlinale Panorama section.
Obasi, a prominent Nigerian filmmaker, is known for his work on Mami Wata, which received critical acclaim at Sundance 2023 and was Nigeria's submission for the best international feature Oscar. Toussaint, a UK actor, has appeared in HBO's House Of The Dragon and Steve McQueen's Small Axe, while Lathan, a US actress, is known for her roles in Succession, Alien vs. Predator, and Love & Basketball.
The collaboration between Toussaint, Lathan, and Obasi promises to deliver a compelling and thought-provoking cinematic experience. Stay tuned for more updates on A Blue Butterfly as production progresses.
