Deep Red: A Politically Charged Space Satire Trilogy Set on Mars

The creators of the popular sci-fi franchise Iron Sky are back with a new project called Deep Red, a trilogy of politically charged space satires. This time, the story revolves around a secret Soviet colony on Mars, set to be shot back-to-back starting in 2027 with releases planned for 2029, 2030, and 2031. The films will be directed by Timo Vuorensola and scripted by Johanna Sinisalo, with a U.S. screenwriter completing the final scripts.
In Deep Red, communists have been living on Mars since the 1950s, creating a utopian society hidden from Earth. The story begins with an American astronaut crash-landing on Mars and discovering the hidden colony governed by an oppressive Artificial Intelligence called Deep Red. What seems like a Marxist dream state is soon revealed to be a system of control and surveillance.
The project is described as an epic trilogy shot simultaneously, similar to Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The financing model for Deep Red includes crowdfunding and equity financing, with a total budget of 15 million euros. The producers plan to issue revenue-sharing tokens tied to participation in the films and the Deep Red intellectual property.
The team behind Deep Red aims to engage the global audience through a tokenized revenue-sharing crowdfunding model. The project reunites collaborators from the Iron Sky franchise, including visual effects overseen by Samuli Torssonen and discussions with the band Laibach to compose the score. The decision to shoot Deep Red as a continuous trilogy was influenced by the experience with Iron Sky, ensuring a guaranteed release schedule and sustained momentum.
