Team USA's Medal Success at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina

Team USA is currently tied with Japan for the third-most medals at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina, with 17 medals. Norway leads with 26 medals, followed by host Italy with 22. The U.S. also has five gold medals, with individual golds won by Breezy Johnson, Elizabeth Lemley, and Jordan Stolz (twice), as well as a gold in the figure skating team event.

Norway holds the most Olympic titles in 2026 with 12, while Italy follows with eight. The U.S. is tied for third place in gold medals with the Netherlands and Sweden. Despite their success at the Summer Olympics, where they have consistently topped the medal standings, the U.S. has only achieved this feat once at the Winter Olympics, during the 1932 Lake Placid Games where they won six gold medals.

In the history of the Winter Olympics since 1924, Team USA has only led the medal standings once, at the 1932 Games, where they won a total of 12 medals. The 2010 Vancouver Games saw the U.S. earn 37 medals, tying for the third-most golds with nine. Despite not frequently finishing first in the medal standings, the U.S. has been one of the most successful countries overall at the Winter Olympics, entering the 2026 Games with the second-most gold and total medals in history, behind Norway.

The Milan Cortina Olympics will conclude on Sunday, Feb. 22, with four medal events in cross-country skiing, bobsled, curling, and men’s hockey. The Closing Ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 22 and can be watched on NBC, Peacock, and NBCOlympics.com.
