Canadian short track speed skater Courtney Sarault secured a silver medal in the women's 1,000-meter final at the Milano Cortina Olympic Games. This achievement marks Sarault's third Olympic medal at these Games, having previously won bronze in the women's 500m final and being part of Canada's silver-medal winning mixed relay team. Xandra Velzeboer of the Netherlands clinched the gold, while Kim Gilli of South Korea claimed the bronze.
Sarault represented Canada as the sole Canadian skater in the five-skater final, with her teammates Florence Brunelle and Kim Boutin exiting the competition earlier. Boutin, from Sherbrooke, Que., did not progress to the semis after finishing third in her quarterfinal race.
Additionally, on Monday, the Canadian men's 5,000m relay team comprising William Dandjinou, Steven Dubois, Felix Roussel, and Maxime Laoun triumphed in their semifinal heat, earning a spot in Friday's medal final. Dandjinou, Dubois, and Roussel also triumphed in their respective men's 500m heats, advancing to Wednesday's quarterfinals.
