Tragic Crash in Chatham County: ICE Chase Leads to Fatal Collision Involving Hesse K-8 Teacher

A fatal crash occurred in Chatham County, Georgia, involving a chase between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and a suspect. The crash resulted in the death of Hesse K-8 teacher Linda Davis. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was conducting an operation in the area when they attempted to pull over a man identified as Oscar Vasquez Lopez, who then led ICE agents on a chase and crashed into Davis, causing her death. Lopez was arrested and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide. The Chatham County Police Department was not aware of the operation or involved in the chase.
Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools confirmed the death of Linda Davis in the car crash and announced that counselors would be available at Hesse K-8 School to support students and staff. Principal Alonna McMullen expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Dr. Davis and outlined plans for providing support and maintaining a sense of normalcy for the school community during this tragic event.
Whitefield Avenue at the Truman Parkway was closed in both directions due to the collision, with one patient requiring extrication and being transported to the hospital in critical condition. The road was reopened later in the day. Footage from the scene showed Department of Homeland Security officers, including Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers, present at the crash site.
