Paramount's upcoming live-action R-rated adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is still in the works, despite previous reports suggesting otherwise. The film, based on the five-issue comic book miniseries of the same name, follows the last surviving turtle seeking revenge for his brothers' deaths in an alternate future.
Initially announced in April 2024, the movie had Tyler Burton Smith attached to write the screenplay and Ilya Naishuller in talks to direct. However, in November 2025, news broke that the project had been put on hold in favor of a more family-friendly Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Co-writers Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz hinted that the movie is not canceled but merely delayed, expressing confidence in its eventual realization.
Eastman's recent comments suggest that the film is still on the table, despite the temporary setback. Additionally, actor Judith Hoag, who played April O'Neil in the original live-action TMNT movies, hinted at a possible return for The Last Ronin, indicating a connection to the earlier films.
