The Life and Loves of Yoko Ono: A Journey Through Art and Relationships

Yoko Ono, an artist known for her avant-garde work, met her first husband, Japanese composer Toshi Ichiyanagi, while studying at The Juilliard School in New York. Their shared interest in experimental music brought them together, and Toshi became a prominent figure in Japanese experimental modern music. The couple married in 1956 but divorced in 1962. Toshi passed away in 2022 at the age of 89.

Yoko's second marriage was to artist and filmmaker Anthony Cox, which had to be annulled due to her previous marriage not being finalized. They remarried in 1963 and had a daughter named Kyoko Chan Cox. The couple divorced in 1969, and Anthony later married Melinda Kendall in 1970.

Yoko's most well-known spouse is The Beatles guitarist John Lennon. They met in 1966 and were married for 11 years until Lennon's tragic death in 1980. The couple had one child together, Sean Lennon, who has followed in his parents' musical footsteps.

Yoko has two children from her three marriages. Her daughter Kyoko was born during her second marriage, and her son Sean was born during her marriage to John Lennon. Kyoko reunited with her mother in 1994 after a long separation.

In 2024, Tate Modern held a retrospective of Yoko Ono's work. Yoko has chosen to live a quieter life, moving to a farm in upstate Franklin with John Lennon, where they purchased a 600-acre property in 1978. Despite her low profile, she has made occasional appearances at events related to John Lennon's legacy.
