U2 Releases 'Days of Ash' EP: A Tribute to Lives Lost

U2 has surprised fans with the release of a new six-song EP called ‘Days of Ash’ on Ash Wednesday. The EP features five new songs by the band and a poem by Yehuda Amichai, as well as a collaboration with Ed Sheeran and Ukrainian singer Taras Topolia. The project pays tribute to individuals whose lives were tragically cut short, including Renée Good, Sarina Esmailzadeh, and Awdah Hathaleen.
Recorded over the past year, the EP explores themes of defiance, dismay, and lamentation. Bono expressed that the songs on ‘Days of Ash’ have a different mood and theme compared to the upcoming album. The band felt that these songs needed to be released to the world without delay, as they were eager to share them with their fans.
In addition to the EP, U2 is bringing back their Propaganda zine with a special 52-page issue titled ‘U2 – Days of Ash: Six Postcards From The Present… Wish We Weren’t Here.’ The zine includes lyrics, notes from each band member, a Bono Q&A, and interviews related to the “Yours Eternally” film. Fans can expect a new full-length album from U2 in late 2026, following their 2023 release ‘Songs of Surrender.’
In conclusion, U2’s ‘Days of Ash’ EP offers a poignant and reflective collection of songs that honor the lives of those who have passed. The band’s commitment to storytelling and connecting with their audience shines through in this latest release, setting the stage for more music to come in the future.
