Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo: Making History at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics

Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo has been making history at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, securing his 10th gold medal and setting a new record. He has been dominating the games, winning five gold medals in his first five events, matching the achievement of American speed skater Eric Heiden. Klaebo is aiming for a perfect sweep with a potential sixth gold medal in the men's 50km mass start classic on Saturday.

While Klaebo's performance at the Winter Olympics has been remarkable, he still falls short of the iconic Olympic sweep achieved by Summer Olympian Michael Phelps. Phelps famously won eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and holds the record for the most career Olympic gold medals with 23. Despite competing in more Olympics and events than Klaebo, Phelps maintains a higher gold medal percentage and total medal percentage.

Klaebo entered the Milan Cortina Games with seven Olympic medals and has now added five more to his tally, tying him for the fourth-most medals by a Winter Olympian. In addition to his pursuit of an 11th gold medal, Klaebo is seeking redemption in the men's 50km mass start classic, where he aims to reclaim the world championship title he lost in 2021 and improve upon his performance at the 2022 Beijing Games.
