Jordan Stolz: American Speedskater's Quest for Olympic Gold

American speedskater Jordan Stolz narrowly missed out on his third Olympic gold medal, settling for silver in the men's 1,500-meter race against China's Ning Zhongyan. Stolz's victory would have made him only the second U.S. athlete to win three gold medals in a single Winter Games, following Eric Heidan's five gold medals in 1980. Stolz set Olympic records in the 1,000-meter and 500-meter races, winning gold in both events. His success in the 1,000-meter race was the first American medal in that event since 2010, and he became the first American since Heidan to win two speedskating medals in a single Games. Stolz expressed confidence in his upcoming events, aiming for more success. This is Stolz's second Winter Games, having previously finished 14th in the 1,000-meter and 13th in the 500-meter in Beijing. He holds the world record for the 1,000-meter speed skate and is a two-time World Cup champion in the distance. Stolz will compete in the mass start event at the Milan Cortino Games this Saturday, marking his final event of the competition.
