ONT Field: Home of the Ontario Tower Buzzers and the Ontario Sports Empire
The Ontario Tower Buzzers, the single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, are gearing up to start their season at the newly constructed ONT Field, a 6,000-seat aviation-themed stadium in Ontario. The stadium is part of the Ontario Sports Empire, a sports complex that includes various fields and courts for different sports, as well as a youth sports training facility, an aquatics center, and a commercial center with restaurants and retail options.
After 16 months of construction, the Ontario Tower Buzzers General Manager, Allan Benavides, mentioned that the field is almost complete and will be ready for the public to enjoy. The construction of the complex cost $151 million, with funding coming from bond revenues and Measure Q sales tax installments approved by voters in the November 2022 election.
The stadium's theme is inspired by Ontario International Airport and the 1986 film "Top Gun." The Buzzers' mascot, named "Maverick," pays homage to the film's protagonist, and the ballpark features elements like a runway, a fighter aircraft, and batting cages visible from the entrance. The stadium also offers premium hospitality areas, including Luxury Flight Suites and Dugout Suites, providing fans with various seating options and experiences.
ONT Field also includes a picnic section, an ice cream parlor, a kids zone with a splash pad, and convertible locker rooms that can accommodate multiple teams or performers. The ballpark pays tribute to Dodger Stadium with familiar food offerings, color schemes, and scoreboards. A mural of Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela by artist Jonas Never aims to unite the local Dodgers fan community and honor Latino baseball fans.
The stadium's inaugural event will be a concert featuring The Avett Brothers, Dwight Yoakam, and The Iguanas before the Ontario Tower Buzzers' first game against the Lake Elsinore Storm on April 2.
