NewYork-Presbyterian Nurses Set to Vote on Ending Historic Strike with New Contracts

Thousands of nurses at NewYork-Presbyterian are set to vote on new contracts this weekend, potentially ending a six-week strike. The strike, which began on Jan. 12, was the largest and longest in the city's history. Nurses from Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Mount Sinai Morningside and West have been picketing, citing concerns about patient safety and working conditions, particularly staffing levels. Last week, nurses at Montefiore and Mount Sinai approved new contracts, but NY-Presbyterian nurses rejected a preliminary deal. However, the NYSNA has now reached a tentative agreement that addresses staffing standards, health benefits, and workplace safety for the nurses. NYSNA President Nancy Hagams praised the nurses for their dedication to patient care and highlighted the positive impact the new contracts will have on patient care.
