Berlin Film Festival's Panorama Section Honors Two Impactful Films: 'Prosecution' and 'Traces
Two impactful films have been recognized with top honors at the Berlin Film Festival's Panorama section, a significant sidebar of the festival. Faraz Shariat's "Prosecution," a German drama centered around a young prosecutor combating far-right violence in eastern Germany, secured the Panorama Audience Award for best feature film this year. On the other hand, Alisa Kovalenko's "Traces," a documentary shedding light on Ukrainian women who have endured conflict-related sexual violence and torture during Russia's war of aggression, clinched the prize for best documentary in the Panorama section.
The Panorama Audience Awards, determined by the Berlin movie-going public, received over 26,500 votes this year. In "Prosecution," Chen Emilie Yan portrays Seyo Kim, a prosecutor facing far-right violence in eastern Germany and becoming a victim of a racist attack. As she delves into her own assault, she aims to bring her assailants to justice and uncover a pervasive far-right network. The film also features Julia Jentsch, Alev Irmak, Arnd Klawitter, and Sebastian Urzendowsky in supporting roles, with world sales managed by New Europe Film Sales.
"Traces" follows the journey of Iryna Dovhan, a former captive turned activist who documents the accounts of sexual assault victims in the de-occupied regions of Ukraine. Through Iryna's narrative and the stories of the women she encounters, the documentary paints a picture of collective trauma intertwined with resilience. Stranger Film Sales is responsible for the global distribution of "Traces."
The Panorama Audience Awards ceremony will take place at the Zoo Palast in Berlin, hosted by the Berlinale in collaboration with Berlin radio station radioeins and regional public broadcaster RBB television. Following the awards presentation, back-to-back screenings of "Prosecution" and "Traces" will be showcased to the audience.
