Berlinale Winners: Soumsoum, Moscas, and More Shine at the Festival

The Berlinale competition saw the films Soumsoum, the Night of the Stars, and Moscas winning top honors from independent juries. Soumsoum, directed by Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, tells the story of a 17-year-old girl grappling with supernatural powers. Moscas, directed by Fernando Eimbcke, follows a young boy forming a bond with a lonely woman. Other winners include Animol, Narciso, and AnyMart in different sections of the festival. Iván & Hadoum won the Teddy Award for best LGBTQ+ feature film.

The Fipresci jury awarded Soumsoum in the competition section, while the Ecumenical jury honored Moscas. The Panorama section saw Narciso winning, and AnyMart took the prize in the Forum section. The Ecumenical jury also recognized Bucks Harbor in Panorama and River Dreams in the Forum section. Iván & Hadoum received the Teddy Award for best LGBTQ+ feature film.

Other awards included the CICAE Art Cinema Award, Guild Film Prize, Label Europa Cinemas, Caligari Film Prize, Peace Film Prize, Amnesty International Film Award, Heiner Carow Prize, and more. The Berlinale Talents program also recognized various projects and talents in the industry. The festival showcased a diverse range of films and talent, celebrating the best in international cinema.
