Gene Simmons Pays Tribute to Ace Frehley with Rare Kiss Song Performances

Gene Simmons recently performed two Kiss songs written by Ace Frehley for the first time in his solo show set list. The songs, "Strange Ways" and "Rocket Ride," were debuted by Simmons and his band at L'Aubrerge Casino Resort. This marked the band's first show of 2026 and only their second live performance since Frehley's passing in October. Simmons also included other Frehley-written songs like "Cold Gin" and "Parasite" in the setlist.

Simmons mentioned that Kiss had never played "Rocket Ride" live, although it was a regular feature in Frehley's solo performances. A demo version of "Strange Ways" with Simmons on lead vocals was released last November. Despite Frehley's contributions to Kiss' early hits, he only took on lead vocals with "Shock Me" from Love Gun in 1977.

In December, Simmons faced backlash for suggesting that Frehley's death was due to "bad decisions," but later apologized for his remarks. The Gene Simmons Band is currently on a brief February tour, with upcoming performances scheduled, including the Rock Legends Cruise XIII. Fans can find more information on the official website.

The setlist for the show in Lake Charles, LA on Feb. 20 included a mix of Kiss classics and Frehley-penned songs, showcasing the band's musical legacy and paying tribute to the late guitarist. Simmons and his band continue to honor Frehley's contributions to Kiss while forging ahead with their own musical journey.
