Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame Inducts George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Don Cook, and Keith Gattis

George Strait and Miranda Lambert were recently inducted into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame by the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association. The ceremony took place at Austin’s ACL Live at The Moody Theater and also honored Don Cook and the late Keith Gattis. Strait, known for his chart-topping hits, has songwriting credits on tracks like “Here for a Good Time” and “Living for the Night.” Lambert, a native of Lindale, Texas, is recognized for her storytelling in songs like “Tin Man” and “Bluebird.” She credits her father for teaching her how to play the guitar and for being her first co-writer.

Don Cook, a veteran hitmaker, has written numerous chart-topping singles for artists like Brooks & Dunn and Alabama. Keith Gattis, who passed away in 2023, was honored posthumously for his contributions to country music. He wrote songs like “El Cerrito Place” for Kenny Chesney and “I Got a Car” for George Strait, as well as collaborated with Willie Nelson and Randy Houser.

The Texas Heritage Songwriters Association awards show celebrated its 20th anniversary this year with a sold-out ceremony featuring tribute performances from artists like Brooks & Dunn, Parker McCollum, Jamey Johnson, and Dean Dillon. Each inductee received a signature “Willie” award to recognize their impact on the genre. The event aims to showcase the songwriters who shape both traditional and contemporary country music.

The induction of George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Don Cook, and Keith Gattis into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame highlights their significant contributions to the country music industry. Their songwriting talents have left a lasting impact on the genre, and their recognition at the awards ceremony underscores their influence on both past and present country music.
