Tragic Motor Vehicle Collision on Route 2: Updates and Safety Advisory for Calvert County Residents

On a Sunday afternoon, emergency services were called to the area of Route 2 and Aspen Woods Drive in Sunderland for a severe motor vehicle collision involving entrapment. Witnesses reported that a tree had fallen onto a truck, trapping its occupants. Upon arrival, responders found a single vehicle under a tree with three individuals trapped inside. Tragically, two of the occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene, while the third remained trapped. Flight medics from Maryland State Police Aviation Command were called in to assist, and the third patient was extricated from the vehicle in under 25 minutes. They were then transported to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center with serious injuries. The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the accident, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Given the ongoing weather conditions, residents are advised to exercise caution as high winds and heavy snowfall are expected in the region. A Snow Emergency Plan is already in effect for Calvert County.
