Chicago Cubs Sign Veteran Outfielder Michael Conforto: A New Addition to the Windy City

With MLB Opening Day approaching, the Chicago Cubs have reportedly reached an agreement to sign veteran outfielder Michael Conforto. The news was shared by baseball insider Jon Heyman on social media, indicating Conforto's move to Chicago. Details about the contract terms have not been disclosed at this time.
Conforto, who has been in the major leagues for over a decade, began his career with the New York Mets in 2015 as the 10th overall pick. During his seven-year tenure with the Mets, he achieved career-high statistics in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. However, his performance declined in the 2021 season, leading to a shoulder injury that required surgery and sidelined him for the entire 2022 season.
Following his recovery, Conforto signed a two-year, $36 million contract with the San Francisco Giants but struggled to improve his numbers during his time with the team. Subsequently, he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers on a one-year, $17 million deal last offseason. Despite high expectations, Conforto's performance fell short, resulting in him being excluded from the Dodgers' postseason roster.
Throughout his career, Conforto has hit 179 home runs and recorded 556 RBI. While primarily playing in left field recently, he has experience in center and right field, as well as serving as a designated hitter. The Cubs will be looking to Conforto to bolster their outfield and provide offensive production in the upcoming season.
