The X-Files Revival: Hulu's New Series with Danielle Deadwyler as Co-Lead

Hulu is bringing back The X-Files with a new series that has just cast its first co-lead. Danielle Deadwyler has secured one of the starring roles in the show, which will be written and directed by Ryan Coogler. The pilot has been given the green light, and the official description of the series revolves around two FBI agents forming an unlikely bond while investigating unexplained phenomena.
The new show's premise differs slightly from the original series that aired on Fox in the 1990s. The original series followed Agent Dana Scully and Agent Fox Mulder as they worked on paranormal cases. Chris Carter, the original showrunner, will serve as a non-writing executive producer on the new series, along with Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler from Coogler's Proximity Media banner.
Ryan Coogler's involvement in the project is a significant win for Hulu, as the acclaimed director has been on a hot streak following the success of his film Sinners. Danielle Deadwyler, known for her roles in The Woman in the Yard and Netflix's The Piano Lesson adaptation, will star in the series. She has also been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance in The Piano Lesson and is set to appear in HBO's Euphoria and Rooster.
The X-Files revival will be produced by Onyx Collective and 20th Television and comes at a time when interest in aliens and UFOs is on the rise. The topic has garnered attention from Congress, former presidents, and even Hollywood, with Steven Spielberg's upcoming film, Disclosure Day, drawing parallels to The X-Files. The new series promises to deliver a fresh take on the beloved sci-fi franchise.
