Tom Hanks to Star as Abraham Lincoln in 'Lincoln in the Bardo': A Blend of Live-Action and Stop-Motion Animation

Tom Hanks, a two-time Oscar winner, is set to portray the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, in the upcoming movie "Lincoln in the Bardo." The film, based on George Saunders' acclaimed novel, will blend live-action and stop-motion animation. Hanks will not only star in the movie but also produce it through his Playtone label alongside Gary Goetzman. The story will focus on Lincoln's historical significance in abolishing slavery and leading the country through the Civil War. Production will take place in London, with Saunders adapting his novel for the screen and Duke Johnson directing and producing the film. "Lincoln in the Bardo" marks the first project to go into production under Starburns Industries' film fund. The movie will delve into a poignant moment in Lincoln's life, exploring themes of love, empathy, and grief through a diverse cast of characters, both living and dead. The production team includes Johnson, Paul Young, and Devon Young Rabinowitz from Starburns Industries, with Steven Shareshian, Aaron Mitchell, and Saunders serving as executive producers. Hanks is represented by CAA and Greenberg Glusker.
