Breeze Airways Expands Nonstop Destinations from RDU: Introducing Birmingham and Tallahassee Routes

Breeze Airways, the rapidly growing airline at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, is expanding its nonstop destinations from the Triangle. The airline will introduce flights between RDU and Birmingham, Alabama, as well as Tallahassee, Florida, this summer. Breeze will operate flights to Tallahassee on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays starting July 2, and to Birmingham on Mondays and Fridays starting July 3, with year-round service. Breeze stands out by serving routes not covered by other airlines, making it the sole carrier offering nonstop flights to Birmingham and Tallahassee from RDU.

Trent Porter, the airline's chief financial officer, highlighted RDU as a prime market for Breeze due to its underserved nature and pent-up demand. Since its launch in the Triangle in February 2023, Breeze has experienced significant growth, with RDU becoming its busiest airport among over 80 in its network. The airline nearly doubled its passenger count at RDU last year to nearly 660,000 and will establish a crew base at the airport in March, employing over 200 pilots and flight crew members.

Michael Landguth, the president and CEO of RDU, noted the revitalization Breeze has brought to Terminal 1, transforming it from a quiet area to a bustling hub. With the addition of new flights, Breeze now offers 39 nonstop destinations from RDU, including its inaugural international flight to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, commencing on March 4. The airline's second international flight to Montego Bay, Jamaica, has been postponed to December due to hurricane-related damage on the island.

Breeze's utilization of Airbus A220-300 aircraft, seating 137 passengers, enables it to serve multiple markets from RDU efficiently. The airline's chief commercial officer, Lukas Johnson, emphasized the aircraft's balance of capacity and efficiency, making it suitable for both larger and smaller destinations like Birmingham and Tallahassee. Breeze's founder and CEO, David Neeleman, has crafted a successful model of a low-cost carrier offering first class and economy seats, with a section featuring extra legroom, contributing to the airline's top-notch on-time performance at RDU.

Driven by strong demand from RDU, Breeze opts to introduce new routes rather than increasing flight frequency on existing ones. Porter highlighted the airline's focus on leisure travelers, who prioritize pricing and efficiency over daily schedules. Breeze's commitment to providing value and punctuality has resonated well with customers, positioning it as a preferred choice for travelers from the Triangle.

In conclusion, Breeze Airways' expansion of nonstop destinations from Raleigh-Durham International Airport underscores its commitment to meeting the travel needs of the Triangle region. With a strategic focus on underserved markets and a customer-centric approach, Breeze continues to enhance connectivity and convenience for passengers flying from RDU.
