A tragic incident occurred during the blizzard of 2026 in Newport, resulting in the death of a Salve Regina University student due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The Newport police responded to a call at the Bellevue parking lot and discovered 21-year-old Joseph Boutros unconscious inside a running vehicle. It was determined that Boutros had been charging his cell phone in the vehicle. He was rushed to Newport Hospital emergency room but was pronounced dead due to carbon monoxide poisoning. The police emphasized the importance of keeping exhaust pipes clear of snow and debris to prevent such accidents.
