King Harald of Norway Hospitalized in Tenerife: Updates on His Health and Royal Family's Response

King Harald of Norway was hospitalized in Tenerife, Spain, for an infection and dehydration during his winter holiday with Queen Sonja. The Royal House of Norway confirmed the King's admission to the Hospital Universitario Hospiten Sur on Feb. 24. The palace stated that the King's condition is good, and his personal physician will join him in Tenerife to assist with his treatment. Updates on the King's health will be provided after the physician's assessment on Feb. 25.
King Harald, 89, and Queen Sonja, 88, had recently attended the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy before the King's hospitalization. Crown Prince Haakon, the King's son and heir to the throne, is currently acting as regent while his father receives medical care. Despite recent turbulence in the Norwegian royal family, including Crown Princess Mette-Marit's connection to Jeffrey Epstein, King Harald had previously stated that he had no plans to abdicate.
The situation with Crown Princess Mette-Marit's friendship with Epstein was addressed when she apologized for the impact it had on the Royal Family. The Crown Princess expressed regret for the situation and acknowledged the challenges it posed for the King and Queen. The Norwegian royal family continues to navigate these challenges while focusing on the King's recovery in Tenerife.
