Coroner Orders Report on Safety of Barriers at Wembley Stadium Following Oasis Fan's Tragic Death

A report on the safety of barriers at Wembley Stadium has been ordered by a coroner following the tragic death of an Oasis fan during one of the band's concerts. Landscape gardener Lee Claydon, 45, passed away as a result of the incident at the North-West London stadium on August 2 last year. The senior coroner, Andrew Walker, has requested a comprehensive report examining the design, height, and placement of barriers on level five of the stadium, where the fatal fall occurred.

The coroner emphasized the importance of assessing the risk associated with the barriers and ensuring that the area is safe for attendees. The report will also evaluate any changes made to the barriers since their installation and review the safety regulations at the stadium to determine if they provide a secure environment for visitors. Concerns raised in a letter from a former Wembley employee regarding safety measures prompted the coroner to call for the report.

The Metropolitan Police, who completed their investigation into the incident last year, ruled out suicide or third-party involvement, confirming that Mr. Claydon's death was a tragic accident. The inquest into the Oasis fan's death is set to continue with another pre-inquest review hearing scheduled for April 29. The initial post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was multiple bodily injuries sustained from the fall during the band's Live '25 reunion tour.

Oasis expressed their shock and sadness over the fan's death, extending their condolences to the individual's family and friends. To stay informed about the latest news in North London, sign up for the MyNorthLondon newsletter for daily updates and more.
