Toby Keith Expressway: Honoring an Oklahoma Legend with Enhanced Transportation Infrastructure

Traveling through Oklahoma may soon include a drive on the Toby Keith Expressway, thanks to a new turnpike project called the ACCESS Oklahoma Long-Range Plan. This project aims to enhance transportation infrastructure in Oklahoma City by adding new interchanges, widening existing turnpikes, updating bridges and pavement, and introducing three new routes in the Oklahoma City metro area. The proposed Toby Keith Expressway would run from Interstate 44 East to Interstate 35 near Indian Hills Road, extending East and North to Interstate 40 at Interstate 335/Kickapoo Turnpike.

The initiative to name the turnpike after the late country music star Toby Keith was put forth by Rep. Jason Blair of Moore, Oklahoma. Keith, known for his pride in his Oklahoma roots, is remembered for his patriotism and generosity. The resolution to honor him with the Toby Keith Expressway has advanced to the Oklahoma Senate for approval, with hopes that it will come to fruition as a tribute to the legendary Oklahoman.

If the Oklahoma Senate approves the resolution, the Toby Keith Expressway will serve as a lasting tribute to the iconic musician who passed away on February 5, 2024. It would be a fitting way to honor his legacy and contributions to the state. Let's hope that the Senate makes the right decision and brings the Toby Keith Expressway to life, celebrating the enduring spirit of an Oklahoma legend.
