Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan Team Up for Live-Action 'Astro Boy' Adaptation

Jason Reitman, a renowned filmmaker with multiple Oscar nominations, is collaborating with Gil Kenan on a live-action adaptation of the beloved Japanese manga "Astro Boy" for Sony. The manga, created by Osamu Tezuka in 1952, follows the story of Astro, a young android with human emotions created to replace a scientist's deceased son. After being rescued from a robot circus, Astro is taken in by a professor who becomes a father figure and builds him a robotic family, allowing him to experience a more normal life. Sony is seeking screenwriters to adapt the story into a family-friendly, all-ages movie, envisioned as a robotic twist on the classic "Pinocchio" tale.

While Reitman is not currently set to direct "Astro Boy," there is a possibility that he may take on the role depending on the script's development. Reitman's notable works include films like "Juno" and "Up in the Air," along with hidden gems like "Tully" and "The Front Runner." Despite his success, his recent project "Saturday Night" received mixed reviews from critics and audiences.

In addition to the "Astro Boy" project, Reitman and Kenan are collaborating with Netflix on an animated Ghostbusters movie and series. The duo's creative partnership continues to explore new and exciting projects, showcasing their talent and versatility in the film industry.
