Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's Artists Equity Strikes Multi-Year Deal with Netflix and Sony for Film Distribution

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's production company, Artists Equity, has secured a deal with Netflix for a multi-year streaming first-look agreement. The partnership also includes production and distribution arrangements with the streaming giant. Artists Equity, co-founded by Gerry Cardinale of RedBird Capital, recently collaborated with Netflix on the successful crime thriller The Rip, featuring Affleck and Damon. The film topped Netflix's charts for three weeks. Additionally, Netflix is gearing up to release Animals, a movie directed by Affleck and starring Kerry Washington and Gillian Anderson, later this year.
Prior to the Netflix deal, Artists Equity had entered into a similar agreement with Sony for theatrical releases. Under the three-year deal with Sony, the studio will distribute Artists Equity's theatrical films globally, provide financing, and manage ancillary aspects. Artists Equity retains the option to co-finance specific projects. The decision on whether a project will fall under the Netflix streaming deal or the Sony theatrical pact will be determined on a project-by-project basis through discussions with studio partners.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon expressed their excitement about the partnership with Netflix, highlighting the alignment of their vision with the streaming platform's approach to storytelling. They emphasized Netflix's ability to engage modern audiences and create shared cultural moments. Netflix film chairman Dan Lin praised Artists Equity for their commitment to producing bold and original films, noting Affleck and Damon's proactive approach to filmmaking and studio development. The collaboration aims to bring innovative and compelling content to viewers worldwide.
