Subaru Hybrid Recall: Fuel Leakage Issue Affects 70,000 Vehicles

Subaru has recently introduced the 2025 Forester Hybrid and the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid to cater to the demands of outdoor enthusiasts seeking a hybrid option from the brand. Despite the positive reception of the Crosstrek Hybrid, Subaru issued a recall for approximately 70,000 hybrids due to a fuel leakage issue. The recall affects 51,707 Forester Hybrids and 19,500 Crosstrek Hybrids, prompting Subaru to advise owners to park outside and maintain fuel levels at 50% until the problem is resolved.
The recall was initiated because of a potential fuel leakage from the filler cap when the fuel tank is near full capacity and exposed to a significant increase in ambient temperature. Subaru plans to replace the gasket of the fuel filler cap with an improved one to prevent fuel leaks and reduce the risk of vehicle fires. While there have been 33 technical reports of the issue in the U.S., Subaru has not received any reports of fires or injuries resulting from the problem.
With the current heat wave in Southern California, Subaru hybrid owners in the region should be cautious. Dealers have been informed of the recall, and affected owners can check their VINs on the NHTSA website.
