Empowering Stories: How To Clean A House In Ten Easy Steps

Alfonso Cuarón and labour leader Ai-jen Poo are teaming up as executive producers for the documentary "How To Clean A House In Ten Easy Steps," set to premiere at the True/False Film Festival. The film follows Beatriz Valencia, a Colombian domestic worker in the US, and her daughter Carolina as they create a fictional writer character. Divided into 10 chapters, the documentary delves into their experiences of immigration, labor, and womanhood. The production team includes FromAway Productions, Crooked Highways, El Parpadeo, and Axolotl Films.

Carolina González Valencia, making her directorial debut, leads the film with producers Brenda Ávila-Hanna, Olga Segura, and Carolina González Valencia. The project is supported by various organizations like Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program and National Domestic Workers Alliance. Cuarón and Poo previously collaborated on the social impact campaign for Roma.

Poo emphasized the importance of recognizing domestic workers' contributions and storytelling as a means of empowerment. "How To Clean A House In Ten Easy Steps" celebrates the resilience and creativity of immigrant women in their roles as caregivers and storytellers. The documentary sheds light on the essential nature of domestic work and the power of narrative in challenging times.
