U2's Days of Ash EP: Chart-Topping Success and Anticipation for New Album

U2 is set to release a new album later this year, generating excitement among fans worldwide. To build anticipation, the band surprised fans with an EP titled Days of Ash, which quickly became a bestseller in the United Kingdom. The EP features a standout track called "Song of the Future," which has earned U2 their first new bestselling song in years, debuting on both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales charts in the UK.
With "Song of the Future," U2 marks their 18th appearance on the Official Singles Sales chart and their 22nd appearance on the downloads chart. The band's last successful track on these charts was "Atomic City" in October 2023, coinciding with their Las Vegas residency at the Sphere. "Atomic City" peaked at No. 10 on both charts, making it one of U2's few songs to achieve this feat.
U2 has a history of chart-topping hits, with tracks like "Vertigo," "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own," "One," and "The Saints Are Coming" reaching No. 1 on the Official Singles Downloads chart. On the Official Singles Sales chart, songs like "Gloria" and "Two Hearts Beat as One" have also made it to the top tier.
Despite its initial success, Days of Ash has seen a decline in chart positions in its latest tracking period. The EP, which previously topped the Official Album Downloads chart, now sits at No. 4, and on the Official Albums Sales list, it has dropped to No. 16. The lead single, "Song of the Future," has garnered significant support from fans, especially in U2's home country of Ireland.
Interestingly, the band chose not to promote the track "Yours Eternally," featuring Ed Sheeran and Taras Topolia, as a single. However, this collaboration could potentially be released as a future single to further boost the EP's success.
