Exciting Lineup for the 2026-27 Season at Steppenwolf Theatre: New Works by Adam Rapp and Stephanie Alison Walker, Director Tina Landau Returns

The upcoming 2026-27 season at Chicago's renowned Steppenwolf Theatre will feature new works by Adam Rapp and Stephanie Alison Walker, as well as the return of director Tina Landau and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. Artistic directors Glenn Davis and Audrey Francis will also take the stage in the five-show subscription season.
The season will kick off in September with a Chicago restaging of Suzan-Lori Parks' Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Topdog/Underdog," directed by Kenny Leon and featuring a cast including Glenn Davis and Namir Smallwood. In October, the world premiere of Stephanie Alison Walker's comedy "Adirondack Chair Circle" will be staged in the Ensemble Theater, directed by Pam MacKinnon and featuring Audrey Francis in the cast.
A co-production with American Conservatory Theater of San Francisco will bring director Tina Landau's new production of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' "The Comeuppance" to the Downstairs Theater in February. The cast will include Celeste M. Cooper, Caroline Neff, Karen Rodriguez, and Namir Smallwood. In April, Broadway director Whitney White will present the English-language premiere of Marius von Mayenburg's psychological thriller "Ellen B." Finally, the season will conclude with the world premiere of Adam Rapp's "The Night Fawn," a searing drama set in Joliet, Illinois, directed by Terry Kinney and starring Cliff Chamberlain.
