Shakey Graves' New Album 'Fondness, Etc.': A Cinematic Folk Journey

Shakey Graves is set to release a new album titled Fondness, Etc. on May 15th through Secret Identity / Dualtone Records. The album features a new single called Time Flies, a cover of a song by Frankie Sunswept that Graves has cherished for nearly two decades. The track includes a string quartet arrangement by David J. Pierce and a guitar solo by Zeke Jarmon of Batty Jr., adding a cinematic touch to the folk song Graves first heard in 2007 in New York City.
Fondness, Etc. is a nine-track album that explores themes of growing up, reflecting on the balance between holding onto the past and embracing the future. Produced by Graves in his home studio using vintage equipment, the album captures a mix of quiet grief and gratitude. Graves plays various instruments on the album, including guitar, drums, synth, and Optigan, creating a nostalgic sound.
The album was recorded on Tascam tape machines during a concentrated one-month period. Graves drew inspiration from a 1932 Gibson guitar that survived a World War II bunker fire, adding a unique element to the recording process. The album's production process was influenced by Graves' desire to create a zero-budget Roy Orbison '50s pop record, resulting in a blend of old and new sounds.
Shakey Graves will kick off a US tour on June 4th in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with additional dates in the UK. Fans can pre-order the album and catch Graves live in concert at various venues, including The Long Road Festival in Leicestershire, UK, and shows in Glasgow, Manchester, and London.
