Red Wings Acquire Veteran Forward David Perron in Trade with Senators

The Detroit Red Wings have made a trade with the Ottawa Senators to acquire veteran forward David Perron in exchange for a conditional draft pick. Perron, who is 37 years old, has had a productive season with the Senators, scoring 10 goals and 15 assists in 49 games during the 2025-26 season, which marks his 19th season in the NHL. Unfortunately, Perron has been sidelined due to an injury that required sports hernia surgery, causing him to miss games since January 20. The Red Wings are hopeful that Perron will be able to return to action soon.

In the trade agreement, if Perron is able to play in a game during the remainder of the regular season or in the playoffs, the Red Wings will send a 2026 fourth-round draft pick to the Senators. However, if Detroit advances to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Perron participates in at least 50% of their first-round games, the Red Wings will upgrade the draft pick to a 2026 third-round selection for the Senators. Perron brings a wealth of experience to the Red Wings, having played for several NHL teams throughout his career, including the St. Louis Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights, and Senators.

Currently, the Detroit Red Wings hold the third spot in the Atlantic Division with a record of 33-18-9 after 60 games played. This trade adds depth and skill to their roster as they push towards a playoff spot. In a separate move on the same day, the Senators acquired forward Warren Foegele from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2026 second-round draft pick. These trades reflect the teams' strategies as they aim to strengthen their lineups for the remainder of the season and beyond.
